On 25–26 June, our lab team came together for our Annual Research & Social Event - and it was a fantastic two days!

The first day was all about science. Everyone gave a presentation outlining where they wanted their research project to go, the challenges ahead, and what they needed to achieve their goals. It was inspiring to see how all of our individual projects fit together into one bigger scientific story. Every presentation sparked thoughtful discussions, great questions, and valuable feedback, making it a brilliant opportunity to exchange ideas, brainstorm, and learn from one another.

After a day of science, it was time for some well-earned socialising! We headed to Greenwich Park, where the sunshine was definitely on our side. We started with a walk up to the viewpoint to take in the stunning views before escaping the heat with a visit to the museum. Lunch came from the local food market (with plenty of delicious options to choose from!), and the afternoon was spent relaxing in the park, chatting, laughing, and getting surprisingly competitive over a few games of cards. To round off the day, we cooled down with well-deserved drinks at a local pub - the perfect ending to a fantastic event. We’re already looking forward to next year's event!

Magda "Our research day was a great opportunity to reflect on the progress of our projects and think about the next paper in a more focused way. It was great to map out the figures, identify what still needs to be done, and see how much progress everyone in the group has made. I particularly enjoyed sharing positive feedback after each presentation, which made everyone feel valued as part of the team. The day also gave us a valuable chance to share ideas and feel motivated about the work ahead."

Kat "It was amazing to see how everyone’s projects and research ideas come together into one big scientific story. So much thought and effort went into every talk, and it was great to hear everyone’s questions, feedback, and fresh perspectives. The fun definitely didn’t stop there - the next day was filled with chatting, card games in the park, and plenty of laughs (although I’m really hoping for a better result at cards next year).
