WELCOME

The Alex McCarthy Lab is a research lab at the Centre for Bacterial Resistance Biology (CBRB), Department of Infectious Diseases, Imperial College London, UK.

Our Lab Investigates
1) The role that inhibitory immune receptors play in fine-tuning antibacterial innate immune responses and their roles in bacterial diseases
2) Immune evasion mechanisms and evolution of human bacterial pathogens. We have created a creative, collaborative and open-minded lab environment.

Currently funded by BBSRC, MRC and Wellcome Trust.

Our Vision

  • Our lab unveils novel immunological concepts and biological mechanisms that promote bacterial infections to drive the development of next-generation therapeutics.

  • We train the next generation of scientists, equipping them with scientific skills, developing their leadership qualities, and training them in sustainable research. This prepares them for diverse and impactful career paths.

Our Values

  • Respect: Be respectful to all individuals, be supportive of teamwork, and respect people's contributions.

  • Integrity & Excellence: Execute research with integrity, challenge assumptions, and actively contribute to discussions.

  • Open Communication: Clearly communicate goals and expectations, discuss failures to learn and innovate.
