ALEX MCCARTHY
Principal Investigator
I joined the MRC Centre of Molecular Bacteriology & Infection in the Department of Infectious Diseases, Imperial College London in January 2019 as a Lecturer. I previously completed 1) a PhD at the University of Leeds (2005-2009), 2) a postdoc in the laboratory of Prof Jodi Lindsay at St George's University of London, London studying the evolution and host-pathogen interactions of S. aureus from 2009-2013, 3) a postdoc in the laboratory of Prof Peter Taylor at University College London (UCL) School of Pharmacy, London studying the host-pathogen interactions of E. coli from 2013 to 2016. I was awarded an Intra-European Fellowship for Career Development by EU MSCA to join the laboratory of Prof Jos van Strijp at the University Medical Centre (UMC) Utrecht in 2016 to study the role of LILRs on neutrophils.

MAGDA SZCZESNA
PhD student
Magda joined the lab in January 2025 as a postdoc on an MRC grant. Magda previously completed a postdoc in Teresa Thurston's lab at Imperial.

MATEVŽ RUMPRET
Postdoc
Matevz joined the lab in Nov 2021 as a postdoc on a BBSRC funded project. He completed his PhD in the group of Linde Meyaard at UMC Utrecht, The Netherlands.

PhD student
Joey Fu joined the lab in October 2021 on our BBSRC funded project. Joey previously completed an MSci in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Manchester.

Postdoc
Lindsay joined the lab in Apr 2023 as a postdoc on a Wellcome Trust-funded project. She completed her PhD at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, USA.
