Gordon Research Conference Streptococcal Biology 2026

From August 1–7, our lab attended the Gordon Research Seminar and Conference on Streptococcal Biology in Tuscany, Italy. It was a fantastic week filled with exciting science and vibrant discussions. As well as, great food and company in Il Ciccio resort in Barga.

The conference offered a comprehensive overview of cutting-edge, unpublished research—spanning genomics, host-pathogen interactions, virulence mechanisms, and emerging therapeutics clinical strategies. Cosme and Joey both presented posters to communicate on their latest findings, giving the opportunity to share their work, exchange ideas and learn from global experts.

Cosme and Joey were also fortunate to attend the Gordon Research Seminar, which was organised specifically for PhD students and postdocs the weekend before the Conference. This provided a space for them to communicate professionally yet informally with peers who are at similar stages in their careers.

Beyond the science, the conference was a wonderful networking opportunity. We forged new connections with researchers from across Europe, the US, China, Singapore, and Australia, while also meeting and/or reconnecting with former lab members. We also took time to explore the historic town of Barga, enjoy local wine tasting, and visit the spectacular Wind Cave. It was a memorable week of great science, strong community, and beautiful Tuscan sunshine.
